If fashion is subjective, then why all the rules? I believe you if you like it and you feel comfortable wearing it, wear it. Everyone wants to dress their best when they step out of the house. People should wear what makes them feel comfortable.
Throughout the years, many people have blindly followed these rules. But in 2021, it’s time to leave them in the past.
1. Dress Your Age
As we age, our style evolves. We begin to feel more comfortable in our own skin the older we get. Dress in a way that identifies who you are at that current stage in your life. Never let the opinions of others dictate how you should be dressing based on your age.
2. Black and Brown Should Not Paired Together
Since both black and brown are neutral colors, they actually go perfectly together. Lighter shades of brown like tan, camel, or taupe can create a nice contrast with the black.
3. Your Shoes and Belt Should Be The Same Color
Your shoes and belt no longer need to be the same color. Mix it up as you like. If you want to wear a brown belt with a yellow shoe, go for it!
4. Tall Women Should Not Wear Heels
Why was this even a rule? If you’re a tall woman who wants to wear heels, wear heels, and rock them proudly.
5. No Socks With Sandals
Socks with sandals is a controversial fashion rule. This combination has been seen on runways all over. If you’re hesitant about this look, try it out and see. Fashion is all about taking risks, so have fun!
6. Sparkle Is Just For Night
There are many ways you can incorporate sparkle into your day looks. You don’t have to limit the glitz to just night.
7. No White After Labor Day
Gone are the days when white was only acceptable in the warmer months. This outdated rule no longer applies. Wearing white year-round is totally acceptable.
8. No Denim on Denim
Denim on denim was once considered a fashion faux pas. It’s ok to pair your favorite denim pieces together. Just make sure to mix up the shades with different hues of denim. Wearing matching denim on denim from head to toe with no contrast is still considered a no-no.
9. Never Mix Prints
Mixing prints is a great way to experiment with different looks. If you are not sure where to start, try mixing different prints that share a single color.
10. Never Wear Gold and Silver Together
Mixing gold and silver jewelry is no longer frowned upon, nowadays everyone’s mixing it up. Do not be afraid to layer up your gold and silver jewelry. Wear these colors as you see fit.
One thing about rules that they are made to be broken. Never let anyone dictate what you can and cannot wear. Wear what you like. Personal style is something that no one can create for you.

That belt and shoe combo on Solange was awful!! Lol. But I definitely mix prints and wear silver and gold together. Great post!
