28 Days Of Black History: Who Was The First Black Model To Cover Seventeen Magazine?
Joyce Wilford was the First African American Model to Cover Seventeen Magazine.
Joyce Wilford was the first black model to cover the July 1971 issue of Seventeen magazine. Though many have claimed that Whitney Houston was the first African American to cover Seventeen, she was on the November 1981 issue. Three years ago I did a post (here) stating that she was the first African American to cover the magazine, but I stand corrected after further research.

I went to Bronx HS of Science with Daphne Maxwell. She was a senior in 1966 when I was a sophomore and she had the lead in the senior class play, as Sabina in “The Skin of Our Teeth”. She was either on the cover of Seventeen Magazine or was a feature in the magazine which I remember had a contest.
She was on the cover of Glamour in 1969: http://fashionbombdaily.com/vintage-snapshot-daphne-maxwell-reid-glamour-october-1969/
