Another Lesson In Black History…Who Was The First African American To Receive A CFDA Fashion Icon Award?
Iman
In 2010 Iman became the first woman of color to receive the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Fashion Icon award.
The CFDA’s annual awards ceremony honors excellence in fashion design, which is often called the “Oscars of fashion.” Nominations are submitted by CFDA members and by select fashion publications, retailers, and stylists. The award winners are voted on and announced at the annual CFDA Fashion Awards gala event.
This award is desired in the fashion industry and is given to those whose signature style has a major influence on fashion.
