According to TMZ, Lane Bryant’s new commercial featuring Ashley Graham, Precious Lee, Tara Lynn, Denise Bidot and Georgia Pratt have been banned from TV networks like ABC and NBC. Thinking to myself, what could be inappropriate about this commercial to make them ban it. Are they using inappropriate language, is it too controversial, and so on. So, of course, I had to watch it for myself.
After the 30-second commercial ended, I was confused. Maybe I missed the reason as to why it was a band, so I re-watched it. Again, I didn’t see a reason as to why this commercial would be banned from networks. What I did see was women showing confidence and being happy with their bodies. Not everyone is or wants to be a size 0. I know there are a lot of women and young girls with body issues, and every time you turn on the TV or flip through a magazine, all they ever show are Victoria Secret type looking, models. What’s wrong with curvy women being proud of their bodies and airing commercials that everyday women can relate to?
Check out the commercial below:
#ThisBody is meant to be seen. Every curve. Every roll. Every inch. Unapologetic, strong and beautiful.
“This is my body. I live in it. Love in it. Work it all the way. This body is all me. Every curve, every roll, every inch. This body is with me every day. Through highs and lows. Ups and downs. This is the body I embrace. To those who doubt what my body can do? I say, watch me. I will show you what this body is. Conquer conventions with who I am. This body is beautiful. Resilient. Fierce. Made to turn heads. Start a revolution. Get it on. Go for broke. Honey, this body is made for anything I want.”

I like the commercial, it celebrates women that we normally do not see in ‘beauty’ ads. I also do not understand why it would banned. I am curious to know what the networks stance is on the issue.

Gotta love the fashion police! Nothing to do with their time. I hadn’t heard of this till now. So silly with what is happening in the world. I’m assuming it’s the breast feeding? That being said, the first part of your post is covered by the ad, so l kind of lost the first 3 lines, even after closing it..there’s still other covering :-(.

I see more inappropriate things on some of the shows they have regularly scheduled. Prime time television is almost at an HBO level of graphic nature. I didn’t see the issue. They just can’t condone self-acceptance to average American women.
Omiana
Great article! I heard it was the breastfeeding, however they were speculating.
Valerie robinson
Literally smh. I like the commercial and don’t understand the logic behind the ban.

By blocking this commercial they are doing the exact thing the commercial is trying to prevent. SMH I don’t see anything wrong with the ladies or the message.

This is ridiculous and shows that although we as people have come a long way we still have a very long way to go! I can give them some commercials that should be banned!

Absolutely ridiculous. The media has no problem showing me Kim Kardashians bare behind every other second but real women with real bodies who are a reflection of what actual real human women look like have been banned? Oh, okay.

I’m confused. If you look to your left and to your right, most women are not a zero. Burns me up. When I modeled, I was considered plus size at a size 10/12. Crazy.

It just seems to me when it comes to censorship there is no set standard. I didn’t see anything wrong with this. If VS models can prance the runway on national TV not sure what the issue is here. If it was the breastfeeding, again there is no set standard and totally hypocritical when it comes to what is deemed appropriate for national television.

I didn’t find anything wrong with the video. I see more skin with Victoria Secret commercials.
