There’s an unwritten rule that says “There’s no crying in fashion”, understandable right? Having thick skin when it comes to fashion is a must unless one of the hottest brands decides to collaborate with one of your favorite stores and you miss out completely. Then you can cry, scream, yell and kick all while silently cursing out those oh so lucky people who were able to snag a few goodies. Then you have those people, whose sole purpose was to buy items and sell them on eBay for double the price (not a bad idea). Some items were going for well over $1,000. In that case, you may as well go straight to balmain.com instead.
I remember first hearing about the Balmain x H&M collab on May 21. Like everyone else, I was super excited. This is something that happens once in a lifetime, right? So I anxiously waited the six months until the big day. As soon as November 1st hit, the countdown began. I was hoping and wishing that one of the Michigan stores was going to carry the collection, but no such luck! (of course).
As November 4th arrived, all I could talk about was this collection. I was hoping the launch would start at midnight, but of course, it didn’t. It started on November 5th at 8 am. I set my alarm clock and woke up ready. I hurried to hm.com only to be greeted by…
I quickly pulled out my laptop only to be greeted by the same welcoming message…
Then I was reminded of the H&M app, this has got to work, I thought to myself. Well, at least I was placed in a queue to no avail…
All I needed was one thing, a T-shirt, a ring, a necklace or something. I finally came to the conclusion that I was not going to get what I wanted, which was either the Leather Faux Fur Jacket or the Striped Silk Blouse.
Finally, after countless attempts to refreshing my page and trying to log on to the site, I was finally granted access (insert squeal here). After my brief moment of excitement, I saw the most dreadful two words listed on all the items “SOLD OUT”!
That’s right, in less than an hour, everything was sold out! I wanted to cry, I felt disappointed. I was really in my feelings that day. Now all I have left from this day, are my “shoulda coulda woulda(s)”.
So for those of you who were lucky enough to snag one or more pieces, wear them well. Wear them with your head held high, wear them as you’ve just stepped off the Balmain runway, and style those pieces to the “gawds”! Most of all enjoy. Maybe for the next designer collaboration, I’ll go at it with a more strategic plan!
Were you one of the lucky ones to score some pieces?
