Detroit native Kevan Hall knew by the age of seven that he wanted to be a fashion designer. After graduating from Cass Technical High School where he studied fashion design and won first place as “Designer of Tomorrow”. He attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. Hall’s love for luxury and haute couture came about after a trip to Europe where he visited European fashion houses such as Dior and Givenchy. Upon graduation, he received the Peacock Award for “Outstanding Fashion Design” from the Fashion Institute. Working as an assistant to L. A sportswear designer Harriet Selwyn, Hall got his start in the fashion world.
In 1982, Hall and his wife Deborah partnered up to launch his first collection, Kevan Hall Couture. The collection consisted of a more relaxed couture look with reasonable price points that pleased Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and other fine stores.
Hall’s designs have been embraced by fashion retailers and the press. He was nominated in 1988 as one of California’s Top Designers. In 1989 he was included in the “Soul on Seventh Avenue” show and was also chosen to receive their “Great American Designer” award. In 1992, he was honored by the Center of Performing Arts in Southern California with a 10-year fashion retrospective. He soon branched out into motion pictures as a costume consultant on “Gridlock” and “Eve’s Bayou”.
With no signs of slowing down, Hall stepped into the prestigious position of Design and Creative Director from fall 1998 to Spring 2000, where he revived the dormant brand to its former glory.
In 2002, Hall launched his own signature ready to wear line, Kevan Hall collection based on a fashion philosophy that emphasizes the purity of style, incomparable tailoring a sensuously draped streamlined silhouettes. Hall’s designs have been worn by many celebrities and fashion icons including Michelle Obama, Charlize Theron, Angela Bassett, Sharon Stone, and Celine Dion.
