Beverly Peele was the first African American to be featured on the cover of Mademoiselle in 1989.
Beverly Peele began her modeling career in 1987 and landed her first magazine cover, Mademoiselle, in 1989. Landing the cover of Mademoiselle made her the first black model to ever be featured on the magazine’s cover. After Mademoiselle, Beverly appeared on over a dozen fashion magazine covers. She was featured in ads for Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Versace, among many others. She also walked for all the top fashion designers like Chanel and Comme des Garçons. In 1993, Beverly was voted one of the 50 most beautiful people by People Magazine.
Beverly Peele appeared on over 250 fashion magazine covers throughout her career.
