Who Is Laquan Smith?
Laquan Smith’s designing all began at the age of 13 when his grandmother passed down her old Singer sewing machine for him to use. From then on he began creating garments.
At the age of 17, Smith was diagnosed with cancer, he pushed through until he won the battle. Once he graduated from high school, he began to pursue a career in fashion.
After applying and not being accepted to the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons School of Design, he began interning at the New York magazine BlackBook. In 2008, he created his self-titled line: Laquan Smith.
In February 2010, Smith made his debut during New York Fashion Week at the Society of Illustrators headquarters in the Upper East Side.
Smith has worked with some of the industry’s top photographers and models. He’s also created custom pieces for celebrities such as Rihanna, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Tyra Banks, Lady Gaga, and many others.
Laquan Smith has already proven himself to be a talented designer. His designs are bold and edgy, they accentuate the body and create silhouettes elongating the legs.
