Meet African American Swimwear Designer Dumebi Iyamah…

African American Designer Dumebi Iyamah

“I have always wanted to be a designer. But I thought it would be when I turn 30. I didn’t think I would start at 17.”

What started as a fashion blog turned into a career for Nigerian fashion designer Dumebi Iyamah.
At the young age of 17, Dumebi launched Andrea Iyamah, a line inspired by color and ethnic cultures, catering to women looking to wear fabulous pieces and edgy swimwear. The brand also offers ready-to-wear and custom-made special event dresses, which are influenced by the brand’s African heritage with a modern twist while maintaining attention to detail and cut.

Dumebi always had a love for sewing, but she never thought that she would be able to start her own clothing line.  After saving up enough money, she was able to purchase her first sewing machine. Her first collection consisted of only two pieces, a pair of shorts and a jacket.

Gym time, but make it fashion. Thanks, @fabletics I love how this pullover cinches at the waist and pink is my favorite color. This set is the perfect fit to get in a quick workout. #fableticspartner

If the shoe fits, make it iconic.
Don’t just wear it baby….own it. Turn every step into a statement and every entrance into a moment they won’t forget.

I’m always preaching to the choir about wearing what we already have at home… but accessories? Babyyyyyy, they’re the cheat code. They make everything feel fresh without buying a whole new outfit. Never underestimate the power of the right piece it changes the whole vibe. #fashionstyledetroit #sunglasses #freepeople
