I remember the first time I laid eyes on an Oscar De La Renta gown, it was love at first sight. Technically I don’t have a favorite color, but I’m very fond of black. Some of my favorite looks from the late great designer are his black gowns. They’re breathtaking! I’ve always wondered if I had the opportunity to wear one of his dresses, where would I wear it to. Then I thought, life is too short to save a dress for the perfect moment. I’d wear it for a night out on the town, to dinner, a museum, a grand opening or wherever, who cares if I’m overdressed, i’m wearing Oscar De La Renta!
“Style is wearing an evening dress to McDonald’s, wearing heels to play football.” – John Galliano

De la Renta got his first real fashion job at Lanvin-Castill in 1961 while he was vacationing in Paris. After moving to New York in 1963, he joined the American design house of Elizabeth Arden where he designed couture gowns for the label’s custom-made clothing line.
In 1965 he started his own signature ready-to-wear line, going on to become one of the world’s greatest fashion designers. His designs have been seen on countless celebrities young and old. His fashions are a red carpet staple. He made modern, chic, ultra feminine, and classic pieces that women of all ages can enjoy.
